Bio
Recruited from La Trobe University, Roger Hampson was a tall, rangy wingman who looked set for a bright future at Windy Hill after playing in the 1968 reserves premiership side. He broke into the senior lineup in 1969, impressing observers with his athleticism to win the club’s Best First Year Player award, but a severe knee injury ended his season prematurely and forced him to miss the entire 1970 campaign. Hampson managed just two games upon his return in 1971 before departing for the VFA with Northcote and Sandringham, eventually moving into coaching at the suburban level. While his playing days were curtailed by injury, Hampson established a lasting legacy at Essendon by returning as General Manager in 1989, serving as the club's chief administrator for seven years during the celebrated "Baby Bombers" era.
