Bio
Recruited from Longford in Tasmania, Roger Hoggett was a solidly built centreman who showed early promise at Princes Park by winning the reserves Best and Fairest in 1964. He broke into the senior lineup under Ken Hands, often deployed as the 19th or 20th man, but found himself fighting for a permanent spot during the club’s pivotal transition to the Ron Barassi era. Ultimately becoming a casualty of Barassi’s drive to reshape the list with taller, faster athletes, Hoggett was one of five players dropped following a tough loss to St Kilda in mid-1965, marking the end of his VFL tenure. He subsequently moved to Sydney, where he forged a successful legacy as a premiership-winning captain-coach with Western Suburbs and toured Ireland with the famous "Australian Galahs" representative side in 1968.
