Bio
Recruited from West Melbourne, Ron Allan was a versatile utility whose transition to senior football was delayed by his service in the Army during the Second World War. Although he featured for the club during the war years, he did not make his VFL debut until 1946 following his discharge. Allan found it difficult to command a regular spot in the senior 22, playing sporadically over four seasons before crossing to Brighton in the VFA midway through 1949. He returned to Arden Street the following year to captain the reserves team to a runner-up finish, eventually moving to Tasmania to captain-coach Latrobe. His legacy at North Melbourne continued through his son, Barry, who played over 60 games for the Kangaroos in the 1960s.
