Bio
A stalwart of the VFA, Ron Alsop arrived at Hawthorn as a seasoned mature-age recruit during the Second World War. Standing just 168cm, the diminutive defender had already compiled a significant career with Port Melbourne, playing over 100 games for the Borough in the decade prior to his VFL call-up. With the VFA in recess due to the war, the 28-year-old was one of many association players to fill the breach at league level, making two senior appearances for the Hawks in 1944. He eventually returned to Port Melbourne to conclude his playing days, cementing his legacy as a loyal servant of the association club.
