Bio
Recruited from Merlynston in Melbourne’s north, Ron Auchettl was a talented ruck-rover whose senior opportunities were severely limited by the sheer strength of the Carlton list during the Ron Barassi era. A hard-working utility with a similar physical build and playing style to club legends Barassi and Sergio Silvagni, Auchettl often found himself stuck behind the stars in the pecking order, forcing him to ply his trade in the seconds where he proved his quality by winning the 1967 Reserves Best and Fairest and captaining the side in 1969. Despite being a reliable contributor who chased the leather relentlessly, he managed just 17 senior games over four seasons before eventually leaving Princes Park to captain-coach Castlemaine in the Bendigo Football League.
