Bio
Recruited from VFA club Northcote during the height of the Second World War, Ron Boys was a towering figure for his era, standing 188cm tall. Despite his imposing physical presence, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in a powerhouse Carlton lineup that secured premierships in 1945 and 1947, spending five seasons on the fringe of the senior side. Seeking greater opportunity to play regular senior football, Boys requested a transfer to Hawthorn for the 1948 season. The move proved fruitful for the tall utility, who immediately found a home in the Hawks' starting eighteen, nearly doubling his career game tally in just two years at Glenferrie Oval. Primarily utilized as a key defender or follower who could impact the contest with his size, he played out the remainder of his VFL career in brown and gold before retiring at the end of 1949.
