Stats
Bio
Recruited from Marysville, Ron Critchley was a strongly built key position utility whose promising VFL career was curtailed by injury and professional obligations. After breaking into the senior side for three games in 1960, he showcased his potential by topping the VFL Reserves goalkicking table that same season. His momentum stalled disastrously when a shoulder reconstruction ruled him out of Hawthorn's historic 1961 premiership campaign. Although he returned to win the club's Reserves Best and Fairest in 1962, a teaching transfer to the Ovens and Murray region prompted his departure from Glenferrie Oval. Following a brief clearance dispute—where the Hawks initially argued he should commute to repay his medical costs—Critchley moved to the country, where he became a celebrated captain-coach for Whorouly and Wangaratta.
