Bio
Recruited from Dandenong in the VFA, Ron Fountain was a diminutive wingman and half-forward who entered the VFL ranks during a particularly challenging era for St Kilda. Standing just 170cm and weighing a slight 62kg, the lightly-framed recruit relied on agility and elusive movement rather than physical presence to find space against hardened League opponents. He showed initial promise by breaking into the senior side for nine games and booting six goals in 1954, a difficult season where the Saints claimed the wooden spoon, but he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the lineup. After failing to register a senior appearance throughout the 1955 season, Fountain returned for a solitary game in 1956 before parting ways with the club, his career standing as a brief chapter in St Kilda's developmental struggles prior to their resurgence in the 1960s.
