Bio
Hailing from Penguin on Tasmania’s north-west coast, Ron Fry arrived at Fitzroy as a mature-age recruit, making his VFL debut just days after his 26th birthday. Standing 187cm, he was a robust ruckman and key position player who added much-needed steel to a struggling Lions outfit during the mid-1960s. His career is best defined by his pivotal role in the famous "Miracle Match" of 1963, where he shouldered the first ruck duties in Fitzroy’s stunning upset victory over the eventual premiers, Geelong. Though the Lions enjoyed little team success during his tenure, Fry remained a serviceable and competitive big man for five seasons, providing an honest contest in the frantic years before the club's nomadic wanderings began.
