Bio
Recruited from Golden Point in the Ballarat Football League, Ron Grove commenced his VFL career with Geelong in 1941. Following the Cats' temporary withdrawal from the competition due to wartime restrictions the following season, he transferred to Footscray, where he settled as a key contributor for the remainder of the decade. While typically utilized as a versatile utility player capable of filling various roles, Grove proved capable of explosive scoring bursts when swung forward. This was most evident during a dominant performance in 1946 against Melbourne, where he booted a career-high 10 goals—a significant outlier given he kicked only 47 other goals across his entire career. He played out his final seasons at the Western Oval, establishing himself as a reliable senior figure during the club's wartime campaigns.
