Ron Hosking

Recruited from Lismore in Victoria’s Western District, Ron Hosking was a tenacious defender known for his discipline and extraordinary commitment to the club. While his brother Bill also donned the Hoops, Ron famously commuted from the family farm for training and matches during his career, eventually establishing himself as a permanent fixture in the Geelong backline. A close-checking back pocket or half-back flanker, he was often tasked with curbing the league’s most dangerous rovers, including tough assignments on legends like Bob Skilton. After honing his craft in the club’s 1963 and 1964 Reserves premiership victories, Hosking became a senior regular during a strong era for the Cats, playing a career-high 22 games in his final season in 1968.
