Bio
Recruited from Oakleigh Sacred Heart and De La Salle College, Ron Irvine was a sturdy defender who spent three seasons on the fringe of the Richmond senior side. Utilised primarily in the back pocket or on a half-back flank, he struggled to cement a permanent spot in the starting lineup, ultimately playing four times as many matches for the reserves as he did for the seniors. Seeking greater opportunity after the 1951 season, Irvine crossed to the VFA where he flourished with Box Hill, carving out a decorated 133-game career that included selection in the 1957 VFA Representative Team. He eventually moved into leadership roles in local footy, captaining Richmond Districts and coaching Stratford in the Gippsland League.
