Bio
A prodigious talent whose career was tragically cut short, Ron James arrived at the Western Oval with a massive reputation after playing in a VFA Grand Final for Williamstown at just 14 years of age. An elusive rover with the ability to break lines and kick on both sides, he made his VFL debut at 16 but struggled to cement a regular spot in Mick Malthouse's defensive setup. After 16 games across three seasons, he appeared poised for a breakout year in 1990 following the appointment of his former Williamstown mentor Terry Wheeler as senior coach. However, James died in a water-skiing accident on New Year's Day 1990 at the age of 19, leaving the football community to wonder what might have been.
