Stats
Bio
A Tiger born and bred, Ron Johnson worked his way onto the senior list after dominating for the Richmond Amateurs, where he won three consecutive best and fairest awards. Standing just 170cm, he was a tenacious rover who wasn't afraid to throw his weight around, though his debut season was hampered by a broken collarbone and ankle issues courtesy of a "hospital handpass" against Hawthorn. His career includes a peculiar footnote in league history: he was suspended by the VFL for striking his own teammate, Ted Langridge, during a fiery intra-club practice match in 1962. Despite flashing potential with a five-goal bag against Geelong later that year, Johnson left Punt Road at the end of the season to take up a higher-paying captain-coach position with Mitcham in the eastern suburbs.
