Stats
Bio
Recruited from Sandhurst in the Bendigo league, Ron Kimberley earned his spot on the Melbourne list through sheer opportunism, famously asking scouts for a trial while they were interviewing one of his teammates. A solidly built utility who stood 185cm and weighed 94kg, he offered a physical presence whether deployed in defence or on the ball. Kimberley’s career is defined by his fairytale inclusion in the 1939 Grand Final side, where he replaced the suspended Wally Lock and claimed a premiership medallion in just his 11th senior game. Despite this remarkable start, he was unable to consolidate his place in the side, with a severe hand injury in 1940 and subsequent World War II service restricting him to just four more appearances over the next five years before he crossed to the VFA with Port Melbourne.
