Bio
Recruited as a mature-age prospect from the Gippsland region, Ron Martin arrived at the Lake Oval with considerable football pedigree, having already served as a playing coach for both Rochester and Stratford. He broke into the South Melbourne lineup midway through the 1930 season, making his debut in a tough encounter against Geelong in Round 9. Despite a brief VFL tenure restricted to just four senior appearances, Martin proved he could impact the scoreboard at the elite level, booting three majors during his short stint with the Bloods. His time in the league was fleeting, serving as a quick cameo for a seasoned country footballer who stepped up to the highest level before concluding his VFL career at the end of the season.
