Stats
Bio
Recruited from Murtoa in the Wimmera region, Ron McDonald was a versatile key position prospect who made an immediate impact at Punt Road. A strong overhead mark and reliable kick, he quickly established himself as a utility capable of holding down centre half-forward, swinging into defence, or providing a chop-out in the ruck. McDonald claimed the Best First Year Player award in 1955 and developed into a standout performer during a lean era for the Tigers, eventually earning selection for the Big V in the 1958 Centenary Carnival and topping the club's Brownlow Medal count in 1959. His VFL career was cut short in its prime due to a bank transfer to the country, seeing him depart for the Ovens & Murray League where he became a premiership player and leading goalkicker for Wangaratta.
