Bio
Recruited from Maryborough, Ron McMahon was a versatile follower and half-forward who showed genuine promise during his brief stint with Melbourne. He broke into the senior side in 1951 and immediately demonstrated his value, polling two Brownlow votes despite playing only five games that year. However, his VFL career was abruptly derailed in the middle of the 1952 season by a severe industrial accident in which he severed the top of his thumb. The injury forced him to the sidelines, and rather than pursuing a return to the Demons, he moved back to the country to continue his football with Maryborough in 1953.
