Recruited from Morwell in the Latrobe Valley, Ron Morgan was a tall, robust key position prospect who made a brief but effective cameo for Fitzroy during the mid-1950s. Standing 188cm—a significant height for the era—he offered the Lions a strong aerial target capable of playing as a key forward or pinch-hitting in the ruck. He was immediately selected for the opening round of the 1954 season and proved to be a reliable avenue to goal, booting eight majors in his eight senior appearances, including a three-goal haul against North Melbourne. Despite averaging a goal a game and showing promise as a contested marker, his VFL career was confined to that solitary winter, with Morgan departing Brunswick Street after a short but statistically tidy tenure at the highest level.
