Bio
Recruited from North Broken Hill, Ron "Cookie" O'Dwyer was a diminutive rover who carved out a unique career across two of the league's fiercest rivals. After struggling to cement a permanent spot in Carlton's senior lineup over three seasons, he crossed to Collingwood in 1959 seeking greater opportunity. Standing just 170cm, O'Dwyer was a nippy rotation player who often drifted forward to hit the scoreboard, a trait that saw him hold his place during the Magpies' strong 1960 campaign. His career high-water mark came that September when he lined up in the Grand Final loss to Melbourne, though he would play only one more season at Victoria Park. O'Dwyer later took his experience to the country as a coach and the VFA as a player, eventually returning to the football community as the President of the AFL X-Men past players association.
