Stats
Bio
Recruited from local side Albert Park, Ron Paez broke into the South Melbourne senior lineup as a 17-year-old in 1949. A solid and reliable forward who could operate near the goal square or push up to half-forward, he became a consistent contributor for the Southerners, averaging almost exactly a goal a game throughout his five-season tenure at the Lake Oval. Despite establishing himself as a regular in the senior side, Paez opted to leave the VFL at just 21 years of age to pursue coaching opportunities in country football. He subsequently built a significant legacy in the Goulburn Valley, most notably captain-coaching Shepparton to the 1957 premiership.
