Stats
Bio
Recruited from Caulfield City, Ron Shields was a solid 185cm defender who arrived at St Kilda during a particularly bleak era for the club. He earned his senior debut in Round 3 of the 1954 season against Collingwood, brought into the lineup as part of a drastic defensive reshuffle following a heavy loss to Hawthorn the previous week. Tasked with shoring up a backline that was frequently under siege, Shields played four games in his first year and another seven in 1955, often battling against the tide in a side that claimed the wooden spoon in both of his seasons on the list. Despite his physical attributes, he was unable to cement a permanent spot in the struggling lineup and departed the VFL scene after just 11 senior appearances.
