Bio
Recruited from the Preston District Junior Association, Ron Smith was a defensive utility who broke into the Fitzroy lineup midway through the 1955 season. Standing 180cm, he made his debut in Round 8 against North Melbourne but found himself on the fringe of selection throughout his brief tenure at Brunswick Street. He played five games in his first year and added four more in 1956, unable to lock down a permanent spot in the Lions' back half or midfield. Failing to register a goal during his nine senior appearances, Smith eventually departed the VFL scene as a depth player who provided cover during a period where the club hovered in the middle of the ladder.
