Bio
Recruited by the Brisbane Lions with the third overall pick in the 1996 National Draft, Rory Hilton entered the AFL with significant expectations despite being selected while recovering from a serious knee injury. The Murray Bushrangers product managed nine games for the Lions in 1998 before requesting a trade back to his home state of Victoria, eventually finding a new home at Richmond. A versatile, strong-bodied utility who could operate across half-forward, the wing, or half-back, Hilton showed flashes of his high-draft pedigree during the Tigers' resurgence in the early 2000s, featuring in their 2001 finals campaign. However, his seven-year stint at Punt Road was largely defined by a frustrating run of injuries that severely limited his continuity on the field. Despite his talent, his body rarely allowed him to string consistent seasons together, leading to his delisting in 2005 at the untimely age of 26.
