Bio
Recruited from North Footscray, Ross Abbey arrived at the Western Oval with a strong family connection as the son of former Bulldog Angus Abbey. Making his debut in 1971, he established himself as a versatile small man capable of playing as a rover or drifting forward to impact the scoreboard. While not a headline star, Abbey was a reliable contributor who possessed good goal sense and the durability to handle the rigours of VFL football as a smaller player.
Throughout a decade-long career, Abbey remained a loyal servant to Footscray during a largely challenging era for the club on the field. He was a consistent presence in the senior lineup, racking up 123 games and 65 goals before hanging up his boots at the conclusion of the 1981 season. His service was later recognised with life membership, cementing his status as a dedicated one-club player who carried on his father's legacy.
