Recruited from Korumburra in South Gippsland, Ross Enbom arrived at Fitzroy as a towering teenage prospect capable of playing in the ruck or key position posts. Standing 192cm but weighing a slender 81kg, he was a lanky "beanpole" type who relied on his reach and vertical leap rather than physical bulk to compete in contests. He was thrust into the spotlight immediately, making his VFL debut in the opening round of the 1967 season against Carlton—a match historically significant for also featuring the debut of Blues legend Alex Jesaulenko. despite this promising start, Enbom struggled to maintain a consistent place in the senior side, managing six games in his first year and just a single appearance in 1968. Unable to secure a long-term future at the Lions, he departed the VFL scene to play a brief stint with Dandenong in the VFA in 1969.
