Recruited from the Perth Football Club in the WAFL, Ross King crossed the Nullarbor to join Fitzroy as a tall prospect during the 1964 season. Standing 188cm, he possessed the size to operate as a key position player or relieving ruckman, adding height to a Lions outfit that was battling near the foot of the ladder. He made his senior debut midway through the year and managed to kick a goal during his two appearances, but was unable to cement a regular spot in the Victorian lineup. King’s VFL career remained a brief cameo, and he eventually returned to Western Australia where he later resurfaced with East Perth in the late 1960s.
