Bio
Overlooked in multiple national drafts, Rowan Marshall began his AFL journey on St Kilda's rookie list after catching recruiters' eyes with the North Ballarat Roosters in the VFL. While initially deployed as a key forward and occasional defender, he seized his opportunity in the ruck during the 2019 season, rapidly transforming from a fringe player into a cult hero at Moorabbin. His unconventional path to the top level instilled a competitive edge that allowed him to surpass more highly touted prospects, eventually securing his future as a franchise cornerstone.
Marshall is distinguished by his athleticism and ground-level craft, operating less like a traditional tap ruckman and more like an extra midfielder who excels at clearances and tackling. After forming a lethal tandem with veteran Paddy Ryder that helped propel the Saints to a finals berth in 2020, Marshall assumed the mantle as the club's primary ruckman following Ryder's departure. He has since established himself as one of the competition's most influential big men, consistently driving St Kilda's engine room with his endurance, contested work, and ability to drift forward and hit the scoreboard.
