Bio
A teenage prodigy who debuted for Tasmanian club Riverside at just 14, Roy Apted developed into a star at North Launceston before attracting VFL interest. His transfer to St Kilda was initially blocked by the TANFL to ensure he could represent the state in the 1958 Carnival, but he eventually arrived at Moorabbin in 1959, paving the way for future Tasmanian legends like Darrel Baldock. A tough and dependable utility who alternated between defence and the ruck-rover position, Apted provided physical substance but struggled to cement a permanent spot in a Saints lineup that was gradually building toward its golden era. He departed after five seasons to continue a decorated career in the TANFL, eventually earning induction into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.
