Recruited from Sunshine in Melbourne’s west, Roy Day was a medium-sized forward who played a cameo role for two clubs during the mid-1920s. He made a lively start to his VFL career with North Melbourne in Round 14, 1926, booting two goals on debut in a hard-fought draw against Hawthorn at Glenferrie Oval. Despite showing early promise in front of the sticks, Day found opportunities limited at Arden Street and crossed to Footscray during the 1927 season. He featured in the Tricolours’ lineup for two matches late that year, playing in a win over Fitzroy, but was unable to cement a permanent place in the senior side. His brief tenure at the top level ended with six games and four goals to his name before he drifted out of league football.
