Stats
Bio
Arriving at Footscray after tasting premiership success with neighbouring VFA club Yarraville, Roy Evans was a polished midfielder who quickly became a central figure at the Western Oval. Predominantly playing as a centreman or wingman, he provided drive through the middle of the ground and possessed the leadership qualities to command respect despite his relative inexperience at VFL level. His most significant contribution came in 1938 when he captained the side to the club's first-ever finals campaign, breaking a drought that had existed since their admission to the league in 1925. While his career spanned just four seasons, Evans remains a pivotal figure in Bulldogs history for steering the club into its maiden major round series before hanging up the boots.
