Bio
Recruited from Moorabbin, Roy Fountain established himself as a formidable ruckman for St Kilda during a challenging period for the club in the late 1930s and 1940s. Standing 188cm and weighing nearly 100kg, he possessed a physical advantage over many opponents of the era, utilising his robust frame to control stoppages and provide protection for the Saints' rovers. His consistency and influence were quickly recognised when he claimed the club's Best and Fairest award in 1939, just his second season in the VFL. Like many contemporaries, Fountain’s prime years were interrupted by the Second World War, causing him to miss the 1944 and 1945 seasons entirely before he returned to Junction Oval to conclude his playing days as a senior leader in the post-war side.
