Stats
Bio
A star recruit from the VFA, Roy Harper joined Footscray after building a formidable reputation at Sandringham, where he had already won two club Best and Fairests. Operating as a centreman and half-forward, he immediately translated his form to the top level, missing only a handful of games in his first two seasons and featuring in the club’s 1953 finals campaign. However, Harper is best remembered as one of the "hard luck" stories of the Bulldogs' golden era; a serious knee injury restricted him to just two appearances in 1954, forcing him to watch from the sidelines as his teammates claimed the club's first premiership. Unable to consistently break back into the senior lineup the following year, he requested a clearance back to Sandringham in the middle of the 1955 season.
