Bio
Born in the mining town of Rosebery, Tasmania, Roy Rawlings arrived at the Western Oval via VFA club Yarraville to play a short but colourful role in Footscray's 1945 campaign. A serviceman during the Second World War, he broke into the senior side as a forward in Round 8 and immediately made headlines by becoming one of the few players in league history to be reported on debut, though he was cleared of the striking charge and also booted a goal. While his VFL career was limited to just four games, Rawlings held the distinction of a 100 per cent winning record at the highest level and finished his tenure by tasting success in the Bulldogs' 1945 reserves premiership victory over Fitzroy. He drifted out of the league following his military discharge later that year, leaving behind a brief but undefeated legacy in the red, white and blue.
