Bio
Recruited from the Fitzroy Colts, Roy Stabb was a diminutive wingman whose VFL career was shaped by the turbulence of the Second World War. He initially broke into the Collingwood senior side in 1942, but his time at Victoria Park was heavily interrupted by army service in New Guinea, where he was wounded in action. Seeking a fresh start after the war, Stabb crossed to Melbourne for the 1945 season—arriving via a brief stint with VFA club Northcote—and made an immediate impact, winning the Demons' Best First Year Player award. He became a fixture in the side, holding down a wing in the club's 1946 Grand Final loss to Essendon. After three seasons with the Demons, Stabb returned to the VFA to finish his playing days at Northcote, where his career eventually came to a premature end after he severely injured his foot in a household wood-chopping accident.
