Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Queenscliff Garrison Artillery, Roy Thompson joined Footscray in 1926, entering the side during the club's second season in the VFL. Stationed primarily on a half-back flank, he was a disciplined and stay-at-home defender who focused strictly on checking his opponents rather than generating drive, a mindset reflected in a career that yielded zero goals. He remained a consistent presence in the defensive half for four seasons, helping to stabilise the backline as the team adjusted to the higher standard of League football. Thompson finished his VFL tenure in 1929 at just 24 years of age and later returned to uniformed service, joining the RAAF during the Second World War.
