Bio
Recruited from the distinctively named Devon-Welshpool-Won Wron-Woodside in the Alberton Football League, Royce Vardy was a tall utility who defied the odds to earn a spot on the Richmond list via the 2000 Rookie Draft. Standing at 191cm, he operated primarily as a key defender capable of swinging forward when required, using his frame to contest aerial balls. However, his tenure at Punt Road was complicated by a significant off-field indiscretion in late 2001; a drink-driving charge that placed the club's lucrative sponsorship with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in serious jeopardy. Although he endeavoured to make amends through dedicated work with the Very Special Kids charity, Vardy struggled to command a regular position in the senior side and was eventually delisted following the 2003 season.
