Stats
Bio
A recruit from the central Victorian goldfields town of Maldon, Rupe Benstead arrived at Essendon via Long Gully in the Bendigo league. He joined the club during the historic 1911 season, breaking into the senior side for a consecutive run of four matches early in the year. However, Benstead faced the difficult task of cementing a place in a "Same Olds" lineup destined for premiership glory, and he was ultimately squeezed out of the rotation by the club's established stars before the finals series. His brief VFL tenure ended after that single season, and he eventually returned to regional Victoria.
