Stats
Bio
Recruited from the small Wimmera town of Great Western in country Victoria, Rupe Hutton was a brief fixture at the Lake Oval during the late 1920s. He arrived at South Melbourne as a mature-age debutant in Round 3 of the 1929 season, breaking into a side that was struggling to find consistency in the era immediately preceding the club's famous "Foreign Legion" recruitment drive. A forward option capable of hitting the scoreboard, Hutton managed to boot two goals during his seven-game stint at VFL level, holding his spot in the senior side for a month-long block in the middle of the year. Despite this run of form, he was unable to cement a permanent place in the starting lineup and departed the league at the conclusion of the 1929 season, remaining one of the many transitional players who served the club before its rise to power in the 1930s.
