Stats
Bio
Recruited from the Western District town of Macarthur, Russell McInnes was a tall utility who made his debut for the Maroons in the 1936 season. Standing 182cm, he possessed the size to pinch-hit in the ruck or hold down a key position, yet he was often deployed as a centreman where his height provided a distinct aerial advantage over smaller midfielders. After playing 13 games for Fitzroy, he was granted a mid-season clearance to South Melbourne in June 1937, adding a further three senior appearances to his tally in the red and white to reach a career total of 16 games. Although his stint at the elite level was brief, McInnes was a capable big-bodied ball winner who competed hard in the pivot before eventually returning to country football.
