Bio
Originally a Redan recruit who spent four years on St Kilda's list in the mid-1980s without registering a senior game, Russell Merriman had to wait for a second opportunity to make his mark at the elite level. That chance came with Geelong in 1991, where he quickly established himself as a lively rover and small forward capable of hitting the scoreboard. His career is best defined by a spectacular run of form during the 1992 finals series; he booted four pivotal goals in the high-scoring Preliminary Final win over Footscray to propel the Cats into the premiership decider. Although his senior tenure was brief, spanning just three seasons, Merriman's performance on the big stage in September 1992 remains a memorable chapter in Geelong's history.
