Bio
Recruited as a mature-age prospect from VFA club Caulfield, Russell Rowe arrived at Melbourne in 1980 with a reputation as a prolific ball-winner. The 26-year-old ruck-rover had originally cut his teeth at Woori Yallock before dominating the VFA, where he reportedly averaged 30 disposals and played 83 consecutive games. Rowe produced a stunning start to his VFL career, booting four goals on debut against St Kilda at Waverley Park to briefly spark hopes of a new forward line dynamo. However, he was unable to sustain that electric form, fading out of the senior side after Round 16 and failing to secure a contract for the following season. He subsequently returned to lower-league football, winning a best and fairest at Woori Yallock, and later served as the senior coach of VFA side Frankston.
