Bio
Recruited from Glenorchy in Tasmania with pick 27 in the 2009 National Draft, Ryan Harwood arrived at Brisbane as a prolific ball-winning inside midfielder but ultimately carved out a niche as a sturdy small defender. Possessing a compact, powerful frame and a penetrating left-foot kick, Harwood was tasked with locking down dangerous small forwards while generating drive from the back half. Although he established himself as a regular fixture in the Lions' back six during the middle of his tenure, his time at the Gabba was frequently hampered by injury setbacks and battles with conditioning that limited his continuity. Harwood played 81 games over eight seasons, serving as a reliable role player during a lean era for the club, before being delisted at the conclusion of the 2017 season as Brisbane undertook a significant list rebuild.
