Bio
Selected with pick 12 in the 2003 National Draft from the Gippsland Power, Ryan Murphy was a traditional lead-up forward known for his contested marking and accuracy in front of goal. Initially touted as a long-term foil for Matthew Pavlich, he proved to be a prolific scorer at WAFL level with South Fremantle but struggled to translate that dominance into a consistent AFL career. Caught in the frustrating position of being too good for state league football yet unable to cement a permanent spot in the senior 22, his opportunities were further squeezed by the arrival of established forwards like Chris Tarrant. After seven seasons on the fringe of selection, Murphy was delisted at the conclusion of the 2010 season.
