Bio
Selected by Melbourne with pick 17 in the 2008 National Draft, Sam Blease arrived with high expectations as a dashing line-breaker from the Eastern Ranges. His start at AFL level was severely delayed by a major leg fracture sustained in his first pre-season, costing him two full years of development before his debut in 2011. Known for his blistering speed and ability to carry the ball through the corridor, Blease showed flashes of brilliance—highlighted by a Rising Star nomination and a dynamic performance against St Kilda in 2012—but often struggled with defensive accountability and consistency. After being delisted by the Demons at the end of 2014, he was thrown a lifeline by Geelong as a delisted free agent. However, his stint at the Cattery was brief; after just one senior appearance, a serious head knock sustained in the VFL resulted in persistent concussion symptoms, forcing him into premature retirement in 2015.
