Bio
Recruited from the local Newtown club, Sam Brockwell was a durable follower who featured prominently for Geelong during the VFL's inaugural 1897 season. After missing the opening rounds, he cemented his place in the side and played in all three of the Pivotonians' finals matches, a series where Geelong controversially finished runners-up despite topping the ladder. Known for his work rate in the heavy conditions of the era, Brockwell played two seasons at Corio Oval before spending a year out of the league. He returned to the top level in 1900 for a single season with South Melbourne, where he played every game of the year before hanging up his boots.
