Bio
Recruited as a mature-age rookie after a standout VFL career with Port Melbourne, Sam Dwyer was a crafty left-footed half-forward and midfielder known for his poise in traffic and clever ball use. Despite being repeatedly overlooked by recruiters, he seized his opportunity at Collingwood in 2013, debuting at age 26 and playing 21 games in an impressive first season where his composure added immediate value to the Magpies' rotation. However, soft tissue injuries and a shift toward a more youthful list profile under Nathan Buckley restricted his opportunities in 2014 and 2015. Dwyer was delisted after 39 games, leaving the AFL as a respected example of persistence and the depth of talent within state leagues.
