Bio
Recruited from West Adelaide with pick 55 in the 2003 National Draft, Sam Fisher arrived at St Kilda as a talented athlete who had initially pursued a serious interest in golf before committing to football. He quickly developed into one of the league's most effective rebound defenders, renowned for his elite reading of the play and intercept marking. Fisher often operated as the loose man in defence, using his composure and precise disposal to launch counter-attacks while maintaining the aerobic capacity to support the midfield press that defined the Saints' game plan during the mid-2000s.
Fisher was a pivotal figure during St Kilda's dominant era under Ross Lyon, anchoring the backline that contested the 2009 and 2010 Grand Finals. His individual consistency was rewarded with All-Australian selection in 2008 and two Trevor Barker Awards as the club's best and fairest in 2008 and 2011. Although his later years were hampered by persistent hamstring issues, Fisher remained a composed leader in the back half until his retirement in 2016, departing as a distinguished one-club player who was instrumental in one of the most successful periods in the club's history.
