Teams

Hailing from the Yorke Peninsula, Sam "Sauce" Jacobs began his career on Carlton's rookie list but found senior opportunities limited behind Matthew Kreuzer and Robbie Warnock. Seeking a permanent role as a number one ruckman, he requested a trade back to South Australia ahead of the 2011 season, a move that ultimately defined his career. Upon joining Adelaide, Jacobs immediately established himself as one of the competition's premier big men, renowned for his astute tap work, strong overhead marking, and ability to feed his midfielders with elite hitouts to advantage.

He became a cult figure at the Crows, noted for his durability and specific dominance in local derbies, where he claimed three Showdown Medals. Despite being frequently named in the All-Australian squad, he was often considered unlucky to miss the final selection during his peak years. As the game evolved and Reilly O'Brien emerged as Adelaide's long-term ruck option in 2019, Jacobs moved to GWS for a final season in 2020. He retired with a reputation as one of the most consistent and technically gifted ruckmen of his generation, having played a pivotal role in Adelaide's midfield dominance during their run to the 2017 Grand Final.
