Bio
A tall defender recruited from Sandy Bay in Tasmania, Sam Jones holds the unusual distinction of being drafted by St Kilda twice—initially with pick 86 in 1990 and again with pick 87 in 1991—as the club invested time in his physical development. Standing 192cm with a reputation for strong marking and courage, he served a lengthy apprenticeship in the reserves before finally breaking into the senior side in Round 12, 1994. He was immediately thrown into the deep end on debut, tasked with manning Geelong star Bill Brownless, where he acquitted himself well in a narrow loss. Despite showing early potential as a key structural option for the Saints' backline, Jones played just two more matches before being delisted at the end of the season, continuing his football journey in the SANFL with West Adelaide.
